ABOUT ORTHODONTICS

The goal of every great orthodontist is to turn your smile into a masterpiece.

Having a better smile boosts your confidence. In addition to feeling good about yourself having your teeth corrected with orthodontic treatment insures a stable bite relationship that will help you maintain healthy teeth for the rest of your life.

The duration of treatment varies from patient to patient. The typical experience lasts between 18 months-3 years.

There is no "right" time to get braces. You get them when you need them.

Each patient is an individual and will be evaluated to his or her specific needs. Ideally we like to see a child at age 8 or 9. That doesn't necessarily mean they will be ready for braces.

We offer a complimentary consultation to evaluate the patient. If we find the time is not right to begin orthodontic treatment, we will place them in our recall system, scheduling periodic checkups until it is the right time to begin treatment.

ABOUT BRACES
Getting braces nowadays can be an exciting experience.

The days where bulky and discomforting metal placed around each tooth are far gone. The brackets are small, and cover very little of the tooth surface. This makes braces much more comfortable and easy to maintain good oral hygiene throughout the treatment.

Having braces doesn't have to be an unpleasant experience. In fact, it can actually be fun! There are many colors to choose from when you come in for your monthly adjustments. You can pick a color to celebrate a particular holiday, or coordinate with an outfit for a special occasion.

How braces work...
Braces create the perfect smile by placing a constant and gentle force on the teeth which helps them to slowly, yet efficiently move into the correct position. When teeth are in the right position, you will experience better and overall health benefits.

There are different types of braces which one can use such as silver braces, clear braces, and removable appliances.

Treatment later in life...
The most common reasons for orthodontic treatment are for spacing, crowding, overbites, under bites, and cross bites. For whatever the reason, if you have any of these problems as an adult, you can still have any of these problems corrected. the only requirement is that your teeth and gums are healthy, and in good condition.

LIFE WITH BRACES
Creating the perfect smile does mean you will have to live life a little bit differently, but it is will worth the end result.

Certain areas of you life which you may have to modify include eating, and home care.

Starting Out...
Your mouth and teeth may feel sore when you first get your braces. Usually this will last two to three days. We recommend a light, soft diet for those initial days, after that you will be able to resume normal eating.

When wearing orthodontic appliances, there are very few things you will need to avoid eating. Sticky, tacky candy is one of the few things we suggest you try not to eat, as it can loosen, or break your orthodontic appliances, resulting in prolonged treatment.

The rest of your diet can remain the same, as long as you modify the way you eat certain foods.

All of these instructions, as well as how to maintain good oral hygiene will be discussed in detail the day your orthodontic appliances are placed.

Braces and Sports...
You will be able to participate in all of your sports activities while wearing your braces, however you will need to wear a special orthodontic mouth guard which we will be happy to provide you with.
